“Hip-hop isn’t just a music, it’s a culture.”<\/p>\n

VH1 teamed up with filmmakers Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman and record executive Steve Stoute for a documentary series based on Stoute’s best-selling book, The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The 4-part Rock Doc series titled,\u00a0The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop<\/em><\/a> will explore how, “Hip-hop became a dominant force in American culture” and eventually paved the way to the election of an African American president.<\/p>\n

Part 1 of the 4-part documentary series, which will feature interviews with everyone from Mariah Carey and Nas to Al Sharpton to Tommy Hilfiger, will premiere on February 24, 2014.<\/p>\n
